Police launch task force to investigate violent anti-racism and anti-Islam rally in Melbourne A Victoria Police task force will investigate rallies in Melbourne's north which erupted into brutal violence when anti-racist activists clashed with the extreme right United Patriots Front.
Police said one person was taken to hospital with a facial injury following the brawl which occurred outside the Melbourne Showgrounds — which was hosting the exposition — about 12:30pm.There was a heavy police presence, fighting against the crowd as the two sides marched toward each other, but the anti-racist activists persistently circumvented police lines, armed with poles and crates.
